OFFER DESCRIPTION

Open Ph.D. Student (f/m/d) Position in Essen

Project Title: Hepatic thyroid hormone signalling in acute and acute-on-chronic liver injury

Our research group (PI: Dr. Denise Zwanziger; https://endokrinologie.uk- essen.de/forschung/schilddruesenhormonwirkung/ag-zwanziger/) at the Dept. of Endocrinology at University of Duisburg-Essen investigates the pathophysiological function of thyroid hormones on the hepato-biliary system.

For a project embedded within the newly established DFG-funded Collaborative Research Centre/Transregio CRC/TR 296 “Local control of TH action” (LocoTact) we are seeking an enthusiastic PhD student with a Master degree (or equivalent) in Molecular Life Science, Biochemistry, Cell Biology or a related field. The PhD student will analyze the effect of local thyroid hormone signalling in acute liver failure (acetaminophen liver injury model) in cell-specific thyroid hormone receptor mutant mice by conducting various gene expression, imaging, protein and enzyme studies. Previous experience with mouse experiments is of advantage.

The PhD position is available at the next possible date and is funded up to 3.5 years according to the German pay scale (TV-L E13, 65%). The PhD student will be enrolled into the integrated graduate school (iRTG) that offers an exciting and highly interdisciplinary educational curriculum including courses and workshops at our partner sites in Berlin and Lübeck. Main language of the iRTG is English.

The University of Duisburg-Essen follows the principles of equal opportunities, and we strongly value diversity. We thus welcome applications from all members of society.
