SUNUM is a Nanotechnology Research and Application Centre hosted by Sabancı University, Istanbul, Turkey. It is one of four Centers in the country that have recently been granted a special endorsement by the Turkish Ministry of Development as a National Research Centre of Excellence.

Its research focus is the intersection of four vertical thematic areas; namely, Life Sciences, Energy, Food & Agriculture, Water & Environment with the horizontal theme of Nanomaterials and Nanosystems.

SUNUM's mission is to excel as a Centre of Excellence for multidisciplinary and cross-disciplinary Nanotechnology research and development studies, offering global nano-technological solutions to societal challenges, creating socio-economic added-value through commercialization of research results by exploiting synergies and long-term strategic partnerships with stakeholders while contributing to the training of high caliber researchers.

SUNUM seeks a motivated individual to work on the synthesis of 2D materials and their layered combinations. The suitable candidate should have a demonstrated experience with synthesis of graphene, oxides of graphene and hBN documented by peer reviewed SCI publications. A Ph.D. degree in materials science & engineering or chemistry or chemical engineering is sought as the position requires good command of the synthesis knowledge and practice for the aforementioned material types. The initial duration of the contract is for 1 year and can be extended for another 2 years based upon satisfactory performance.

Skills/Qualifications

The position responsibilities are

  • Synthesis of graphene/hBN bilayers from solution based and various other chemical and/or deposition methods.
  • Characterization of these layered samples via XRD, Raman/FTIR spectroscopy and Electron Microscopy techniques.
  • Carrying out impedance measurements and similar tests in collaboration with other Sabancı University faculty members and research groups.
  • Reporting of results during yearly assessments and via journal publications.
