OFFER DESCRIPTION

Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences
Postdoc position (f/m/d) - Evolution of gene regulation and polygenic adaptation in Plants
Institute for Plant Sciences | LAB Prof. de Meaux

The University of Cologne is one of the largest and most research-intensive universities in Germany, offering a wide range of subjects. With its six faculties and its interfaculty centres, it offers a broad spectrum of scientific disciplines and internationally outstanding profile areas, supported by the administration with its services.

Research in our lab investigates the role played by variation in gene expression regulation in processes of polygenic adaptation. Our lab has recently collected a transcriptomic time series to identify the cisand trans- regulatory changes associated with the shift from perennial to annual growth in plants. The goal of the project is to identify the molecular components whose regulation has been reshaped after the shift in life-history. Using data previously generated by our lab on positive and negative evolutionary forces in these same populations, and ad-hoc dataset for the well known regulation of flowering time in these species, the scientist will investigate footprints of polygenic selection on the regulation of plant development. For more information on our lab and research visit our website https://ag-demeaux.botanik.uni-koeln.de/.

YOUR TASKS

  • The postdoctoral scientist will use data to disentangle the effect of temperature and development on expression differences between these species.
  • The scientist will study the effects of polygenic selection on the regulation of plant development.

YOUR PROFILE

  • The applicant must hold a PhD in Evolutionary Biology (Population genetics, Comparative Genomics, Evolutionary Genetics)
  • and hold advanced skills in the bioinformatics of next generation sequencing data.

  • A diverse and fair working environment
  • Support in reconciling work and family life
  • Flexible working time models
  • Extensive advanced training opportunities
